About this Destination

Embark on an African soul journey to the heart of an extinct volcanic crater. Come close to kings on a Big 5 safari, or take-off on a strikingly elevated safari and revel in the delight of nature’s finest performers from the sky in a hot air balloon. Experience the silence and immediacy of Mother Nature on a guided walk; track rhino, observe lions from a few feet away, and see the world in a new light. The Palace of the Lost City is not only one of the best hotels in Africa; it’s a gateway to unique African adventures.

Walk where champions tread when you stay at The Palace, one of the top 5-star hotels in South Africa, and tee off on world-famous greens. Dine in the company of royalty in the romantic King’s Tower, or catch a wave at the Roaring Lagoon, the spectacular centrepiece of the Valley of Waves. Experience the ultimate adrenalin rush on the fastest zip slide in the world, or take it easy on the Lazy River. As one of the best hotels in South Africa, The Palace of the Lost City is the glittering northern star of Sun International’s luxury constellation of luxury hotels – The Sunlux Collection – and will tempt and entice you to explore more under an African sun.

The Culture

The Village People at Sun City showcase most of the cultures and tribes in South Africa, highlighting the day-to-day living in rural areas through dress, song, dance and food. Experience the history and beliefs of tribes such as Tswana, Zulu, Pedi Xhosa, Ndebele, Venda, Shangaan, Ntwana, etc.

Language

The most common languages in Cape Town are English, Afrikaans and Xhosa. Afrikaans is the most widely spoken home language with more than 40% of Capetonians speaking the language. Afrikaans is one of the eleven official languages of South Africa.

Currency

If you are traveling to Sun City, you will need to exchange your currency for the South African Rand.

Weather and Climate

Sun City’s temperate, malaria-free climate makes it a great year-round destination. Peak season at Sun City coincides with South Africa’s summer and Easter national school vacations, which run from December to January and around April, respectively. Expect hot weather, greater guest numbers and less room availability over these periods. The late autumn and winter months – from about May to September - are cooler and quieter but check before you book when the Valley of Waves is scheduled to close down for a month for annual maintenance.
